Alice Oliver is a visual artist, photographer, writer and educator whose research-led practice explores the intricate relationships between the natural world, the human body and memory.
Working across experimental photographic processes, moving image and installation, her work considers the ways in which landscapes hold traces of our histories, rituals and experiences. Rooted in an ongoing fascination with folklore, botanical knowledge and the materiality of photography, her practice moves between the scientific and the poetic, revealing often-overlooked connections between human and non-human life.
Through a contemporary feminist lens, Alice examines the historical relationships between women and the natural world, particularly the traditions, knowledge and practices surrounding the female body. Alongside these investigations, her work considers the fragility of human experience, the passage of time and photography's ability to preserve, transform and illuminate what might otherwise remain unseen.
Alice graduated with Distinction from the MA Photography programme at the Royal College of Art in 2022. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including Herb of Grace at the European Green Party Congress in Copenhagen, Denmark. In 2022, she was selected for the SW Darkroom Residency Award.
Now based in Bath, UK, Alice is actively involved in the city's contemporary arts scene. She has exhibited with Fringe Arts Bath and at the Royal Commonwealth Society Bath Art Prize, where she was awarded first place. Most recently, she was selected for a solo exhibition at 44AD Artspace through the Bath Open Art Prize. She is also the founder and curator of SOLA Journal, an artist-led platform and independent publication facilitating dialogue and exploration within contemporary visual art, both online and in print.
Alongside her artistic practice, Alice is a Teacher of Visual Arts and Photography Subject Lead. She holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from Coventry University, completed through the National Institute of Teaching and Education (NITE).
